Reflectors, also known as hoods, are designed to redirect light that would otherwise be wasted back towards the plants. Most reflectors contain a silver reflecting insert, directly above the bulb, that covers the entire inside of the hood. This insert usually appears rough, as this is thought to more effectively randomize and scatter the reflected light. Reflectors come in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate different types of gardens. Smaller, narrower hoods are for fewer, taller plants while larger, wider hoods are designed for a large number of shorter plants.
